JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Duval County School Board member Betty Burney has settled her fine with the Office of the Attorney General.

Burney owed thousands of dollars in state ethics fines.

The fines are from 2002 when she failed to file financial statements while she was a member of the Northeast Florida Regional Planning Council in the late 1990's.

Last week, Burney agreed to pay $5,000.

The actual amount due was $6,900, but the Attorney General's Office said it would settle for the lower amount and will now remove the lien from her property.
