MIAMI -- A former U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer accused of groping three women who were in custody at Miami International Airport has been sentenced to nearly three years in prison.
A federal judge gave 48-year-old Paulo Morales a 33-month sentence Thursday. He pleaded guilty in July to three misdemeanor counts of deprivation of rights. He had previously faced three felony counts of abusive sexual contact, which could have carried two years in prison for each count.
The U.S. Attorney's Office reports that Morales admitted during plea proceedings that on various dates in January 2011, he groped the breasts of three women while they were in the custody of Customs and Border Protection.
