TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida Gov. Rick Scott's higher education task force is nearing consensus on its final recommendations.
The seven-member panel was set to begin voting during a conference call Tuesday. The proposed recommendations include charging different tuition according to the type of degree a student is seeking.
The idea is to use lower tuition rates to encourage students to enroll in programs that lead to high-wage, high-skill and high-demand jobs.
All proposals advanced by the Blue Ribbon Task force on State Higher Education Reform must receive unanimous approval.
Another proposal would be to let "preeminent universities" charges higher rates.
Scott and the panel's chairman, Dale Brill, are scheduled to appear before the Board of Governors, which oversees Florida's 12 public universities, on Wednesday to discuss their ideas
