It might seem like common sense not to flip the bird at a guy commonly referred to as ''Your Honor.'' But that didn't stop a Florida woman from giving the one-fingered salute and cursing at the judge.

Penelope Soto, 18, didn't just flip the judge the bird right off the bat. She built up to it. Charged with possession of Xanax, she and Miami Dade Circuit Judge Jorge Rodriguez Chomat got off to a rocky start at the bail hearing.

"I own a lot of jewelry alright," Soto told him.

"How much would you say your jewelry is worth?" the judge asked as Soto laughed. "It's not a joke. We're not in a club now."

Soon it started to sound like a scene out of "My Cousin Vinny."

"You on drugs?" the judge asked.
"Drugs, no, I don't take drugs," Soto said.
"Have you had any drugs last 24 hours?" the judge asked.
"Actually, no," Soto said.

And Soto had no prior arrests, so the judge set bail at $5,000.

"Bye bye," he said.
"Adios," Soto replied.

But "adios" was a little too sassy.

"Come back ma'am, come back," the judge said and upped the bail.

"Count one will be $10,000," the judge said as Soto gasped.
"Are you serious? she asked.
"I am serious. Adios," the judge replied.

So Soto flipped the bird and cursed. The judge called her back.

"Wassup?" Soto said.

The judge asked Soto if he correctly heard her swear at him, and she confirmed it.

"I find you in direct criminal contempt, 30 days in county jail," the judge said.
"OK, that's fine," Soto said.

At her sentencing in 2010, actress Lindsay Lohan's eyes may have cried tears, but her middle fingernail was painted with a shortened expletive phrase. Who knows if it was directed at the court or the press. The judge's spokesperson said it didn't warrant a reaction.
