JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Lender Processing Services Inc. (LPS) has agreed to pay $35 million in an effort to resolve criminal fraud charges over a six-year scheme to prepare and file more than one million fraudulently signed and notarized mortgage documents in the United States.

According to the Department of Justice, LPS, which is a mortgage servicing company based out of Jacksonville, has entered into a non-prosecution agreement, which requires the $35 million dollar payment.

Lorraine Brown, the former CEO of DocX LLC, was found guilty, November 20, 2012, for conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud during March 2003 until 2009.

Sentencing for Brown is scheduled April 23. She faces a possible sentence of a maximum of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine, or twice the gross gain or loss from the offense.
