TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Can politicians learn how to play nice?
Senate Bill 114 would mandate that candidates have to be civil to each other.
The proposed legislation would ask each candidate to sign an oath to keep campaigns positive and clean in the state of Florida.
Some lawmakers are in favor of it.
"I think people are sick of the negativity, and they want everyone in elected office to be civil to one another," said Senator Rob Bradley of Orange Park.
But voters are less certain it could work.
"I don't think you can moderate how people interact with each other. Some people will get along, so people won't, it doesn't matter if they're legislators or not," said Jackie Shapier.
"I didn't know we were going with a law in relation to grade schoolers," said Kyle Wilson.
A similar bill was not successful in the 2012 session.
