GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) - A north Florida boy was found dead in an abandoned pool after wandering away from his front yard.
The Alachua County Sheriff's Office reports that 3-year-old Demetrius Powers was reported missing just before noon Friday. The Gainesville Sun reports that dozens of sheriff's office personnel searched the area around the Holly Heights subdivision.
When bloodhounds arrived, the dogs immediately tracked the boy to the edge of the nearby pool. A K-9 deputy jumped into the murky, chest-deep water to find the boy but was unsuccessful.
A dive team responded and found the child's body around 2 p.m. Friday.
