(NBC MIAMI) -- A Fort Lauderdale man is facing battery charges after he punched his blind 89-year-old mother in the face, authorities said.
James Jackson, 52, was arrested
Monday and charged with battery of a person 65 years of age or older and
domestic violence, jail records showed.
Jackson appeared in bond court Tuesday before Judge Ellen Feld, who read the charges from the arrest affidavit.
"They said you punched your blind 89-year-old mother in the face," Feld said.
No other details of the encounter
were given. Prosecutors said Jackson was convicted as a habitual
offender in 2006 for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and felony
battery causing great harm.
Feld ordered Jackson held without
bond on a probation violation, and ordered him to have no contact with
