ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WESH) -- An Orange County middle school was locked down on Monday after officials said they found a loaded .22-caliber magazine in a trash can.

Police said they were called after a student sent a text message to their parent about a rumor of a lunchtime shooting at the school.

That parent called police but wished to remain anonymous.

"We received information, one that there maybe a shooting today at Glenridge Middle School," said Orlando police Sgt. Jim Young. "In addition, we had information that someone may have a gun in a trash can. The trash cans were searched and a fully-loaded magazine was located inside one the trash cans, but no gun has been located."

The Orlando Police Department was on scene and working with the school to investigate the incident. They lifted the lockdown shortly after 2 p.m.

"We have many officers on scene and are conducting a slow but yet methodical search of each classroom and each student in attempt to find any possible guns on campus," said Young.

After the search concluded, officers said they found no gun.

Officials said they plan to keep a stronger police presence around the campus through the end of the school year.

Police said they want the anonymous parent to come forward, and they have guaranteed to keep their name anonymous to the public.
