TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida tourism is off to its best start ever.
A record 26 million visitors vacationed in Florida during the first quarter this year. That's up nearly five percent from the same period in 2012.
Florida welcomed an estimated 22 million people from around the country and another four million from Canada and overseas, according to the state's marketing agency Visit Florida.
The surge in visitors is also boosting tourism-related employment. A record 1.1 million people now work in Florida's tourism industry. That's up three percent from a year ago.
A record 91.4 million people visited Florida in 2012.
