A South Carolina man was arrested in Cocoa Beach Tuesday morning by the U.S. Marshals Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force.
John Sachs, 37, was wanted for kidnapping and sexual assault charges after police say he raped a 19-year-old woman at his home on February 9.
Police in South Carolina determined Sachs was hiding in a hotel on A1A south of SR 520, according to a release from the U.S. Marshals. A spokesman explained they forwarded that tip to agents in Brevard County, who arrested Sachs without incident.
Sachs was booked at Brevard County Jail, and awaits extradition back to South Carolina.
"Mr. Sachs thought Florida would provide a safe haven for him on the run," Kelvin Washington, U.S. Marshal for South Carolina, said in a release. "Little did he know that the determination of law enforcement and dedication to the safety of the community would prevail to bring him to face justice."
