LOXAHATCHEE NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE, Fla. (AP) -- Authorities have located the wreckage of a private plane that crashed into the Everglades.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office reports the small plane crashed Saturday into the Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge about 20 miles west of Boynton Beach. The site cannot only be reached by airboats, which deputies were in the process of launching.
It is unknown how many people were on the plane and if there were any survivors.
FAA spokeswoman Arlene Salac told The Palm Beach Post the twin engine Cessna 340 departed Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport Saturday morning en route to Leesburg, northwest of Orlando.
The newspaper reports the plane is registered to Paul S. Soule Enterprises.
