SANFORD, Fla. -- Downtown Sanford is buzzing with talk about the impending verdict in the George Zimmerman trial. The area is a hot spot for locals, but also for all the tourists the trial has brought in.

"I live right by the courthouse so like every time I pass by it, it's crazy; a lot of cars, a lot of people," said Meagan Couteau, a Sanford resident.

It's a murder trial that has put the small town of Sanford, populated by about 55,000, in the international spotlight and has tourists stopping in the city.

"This is a historical trial. I grew up in the era where I think it was O.J., you have likes these crazy trials that I think are historical," said Demorrous Robinson, a tourist.

Robinson is from North Carolina and was visiting Orlando for a conference, but made sure to detour to Sanford to witness what he calls history in the making.

Central Florida is no stranger to high profile cases. Ben Nguyen of Orlando remembers Casey Anthony's trial from just two years ago and now he sees Sanford in the home stretch.

"It's just time for some closure to come to this whole trial. It's been going on and they just want it settled one way or another," said Nguyen.

But for many in Sanford, it's more than just deciding guilty or not guilty. Timothy Jackson, 16, used to play football close to where Trayvon Martin was fatally shot. He said he wants justice, and like everyone else, is anxious.

"I'm waiting to hear the verdict myself, it just, people are waiting at the edge of their seat just to hear," said Jackson.
