A chemical attack injured four deputies in Orange County on Thursday night.
Investigators said the attack happened at the intersection of Powers Drive and Silver Star Road, when the deputies tried to speak to a civilian, and the person attacked them with a chemical.
Authorities said the four deputies and the civilian were being treated for possible lye exposure.
Officials said two of the deputies are in stable condition after being taken to a hospital for treatment. The two other deputies were treated at the scene and released.
The suspect was taken to a hospital, but his condition was not released.
"It could be a situation like this where we someone may be doing something possibly illicit, or it could be something as simple as a housekeeper or homeowner incorrectly mixing chemicals," said Orange County Fire Department John Mulhall. "Chemicals are very dangerous that's why we have three hazmat teams throughout the county."
Deputies have not said why they originally stopped the man.
Officials said lye can cause chemical burns, scarring and blindness.
