EDGEWATER, Fla. - Deputies in Volusia County said a sex offender, who fled from their custody by leaping into a river, is back in custody.
Convicted sex offender Luis Alberto Hernandez DeJesus, 31, was still wearing handcuffs when he was rearrested Wednesday night.
A manhunt just off North Dixie Freeway, near the 1300 block, began Wednesday afternoon and ended shortly after 11 p.m.
Authorities said Hernandez DeJesus jumped into the water behind a used car lot.
Deputies in boats launched a search in the Indian River for the escapee. Other units surrounded a nearby motel, but it wasn't until later Wednesday night when a citizen's tip came in that the man was seen running along some nearby railroad tracks in Edgewater. DeJesus was arrested a short time later.
Earlier in the day deputies said they were set to arrest the suspect because he moved without notifying authorities, which is required of sex offenders under Florida law.
