TAMPA, Fla. (WTSP) -- Police at the University of South Florida have issued an all-clear following a search for a possible armed intruder on school's Tampa campus on Friday afternoon.

Around 2:15 p.m., a text alert was sent to USF students, warning of the intruder on campus:

ALERT USF Tampa: Armed intruder near USF Health (MDC) area. Remain alert. Avoid area. Follow police instructions.

A second alert was then sent out a short time later describing the suspect as a "slender black male, blue shirt, [and] khaki shorts."

The USF Health College of Nursing building was briefly evacuated, but people have since been allowed back in.

10 News reporter Preston Rudie is on scene and reports the alert was prompted after a man was seen jumping a fence and dropped what appeared to be a gun.  No threats were made.

Police tell us that under state law, guns are not allowed allowed on USF campus.
