HOLT, Fla. (AP) - State agriculture officials say a prescribed burn in the Blackwater River State Forest has yielded some colorful results.

Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam says a grouping of rare orchids and other flowers emerged after the prescribed burn.

Flower fans can spot Pot-of-Golds, Catesby's lilies, White Top Pitcher Plants, and several species of rare orchids, including four Yellow Fringeless Orchids blooming together. Officials say it's more than has ever been seen in the state forest since the program began.

Putnam says prescribed burning helps manage the health of forest lands, controls pests and disease, and improves wildlife habitat.

The burns also help reduce the hazard of wildfire.
