RIVERVIEW, Fla. - A nine-year-old boy was arrested after bringing a loaded gun on a school bus headed toward Ippolito Elementary School in Riverview.
According to investigators, around 8:15 Wednesday morning, the bus driver overheard two students talking on the bus, then witnessed one of them putting a gun into the front pocket of his pants.
The driver immediately alerted the principal who called deputies. When the bus arrived at school, investigators discovered the boy was carrying a loaded .22 caliber pistol and arrested him. The boy was taken to the Hillsborough County Juvenile Assessment Center.
Officers met with the boy's parents who said their son took the gun from home without their knowledge, deputies said. No charges have been filed yet.
The school district has sent out a message to parents telling them about what happened.
