Hillsborough deputies say a 9-year-old boy brought this loaded, two-shot Derringer onto his school bus on Wednesday morning.
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. -- Deputies say a 9-year-old boy was arrested after he brought a loaded .22 caliber Derringer onto the school bus.
The boy is a student at Ippolito Elementary School in Riverview.
The bus driver reportedly saw the boy stuff the gun into his pants on Wednesday morning and called the school principal, who in turn notified the Hillsborough Sheriff's Office.
Deputies were waiting when the bus pulled up to the school. All children on board safely got off, and the 9-year-old was searched.
The handgun was found in his front pants pocket and the boy was arrested.
The boy's parents told investigators the gun belonged to them, but they did not know he had taken it.
The 9-year-old was taken to the Hillsborough County Juvenile Assessment Center.
