OCALA, Fla. - The man wanted for the death of a 26-year-old mother is behind bars and will face a judge Thursday morning in Marion County.

Authorities said Johnny Shipman, 36, killed Kristi Delaney, his ex-girlfriend, in front of the couple's 3-year-old daughter in Mascotte.

According to investigators, after Delaney was killed, Shipman called someone and asked that person to pick him up in Groveland. The witness said he had a fresh cut on his right hand, which was bandaged and appeared to be bleeding, police said. He was dropped off in Ocala, where he was captured two days later.

Neighbors in the South Bay Lake Road area are relieved, but overall just happy that Shipman was caught.

"I was happy everybody screamed for joy because we were happy they finally caught him," said Adriana Gaitan.

Delaney's family told WESH 2 News that the couple had an on and off relationship for years, including a lot of arguing and physical altercations.

In a petition for an injunction filed by Delaney last year, she wrote "I need him to stay away from me and my daughter at least till he gets help. If he kills me she will not have anyone, but my mom."

Delaney went on to say in the injunction, "(He) stated he would punch me or knock me out, because I said in a text that I do not want to be around him."

The injunction was set to expire in February 2013, but it was instead dissolved in July 2012.

Shipman has a long criminal history and was last released from prison in 2008 after serving 13 years for armed burglary.

Shipman, who police say did not resist arrest, will be going before a judge at 9:30 a.m. for her death and likely be transferred back to Lake County.
