Former Gov. Jeb Bush today endorsed Rick Scott for a second term as governor, saying he "demonstrated leadership when Florida needed it most."
Bush's endorsement sends the latest signal that Florida's Republican establishment, which Scott bucked during his upstart 2010 campaign, is rallying around his re-election.
"It's simple why I'm supporting Rick Scott," Bush said in a statement released by the state Republican Party of Florida. "He campaigned on a platform of getting Florida's economy back on track, and has delivered on that promise."
Scott faces a field of Democratic challengers that includes former Republican Charlie Crist, who succeeded Bush as governor, and former state Sen. Nan Rich, D-Weston.
Scott, for his part, praised Bush, who backed former state Attorney General Bill McCollum in the 2010 Republican gubernatorial primary.
"His positive vision for Florida continues to inspire us today as we work to cut taxes and get our economy back on track," Scott said.
