SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Savannah's police chief is calling on witnesses to come forward after a shooting at the Coastal Empire Fair that wounded seven people, most of them teenagers.
Police tell The Savannah Morning News that about 15 males, who appeared to be in their teens, converged on the midway around 10:40 p.m. Saturday. Police Chief Willie Lovett said a witness told investigators that at least one of them had a gun in his waistband.
Savannah-Chatham County police spokesman Julian Miller says no one was killed in the gunfire, but seven people were treated for gunshot wounds at area hospitals.
Witnesses described seeing a gunman wearing a dark jumpsuit. No arrests had been made by early Monday.
Savannah Mayor Edna Jackson is planning a 10 a.m. news conference to discuss the shooting.
