COLUMBUS, Ga. -- A Muscogee County man facing a murder trial claims insanity as his defense, but prosecutors dismiss his statement and say he was on drugs.
The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports 34-year-old Robert Cantelli blasted a man with a shotgun in the backseat of his car in 2010.
The newspaper reports after the shooting, Cantelli drove to Alabama with the victim's body on the floor of his car. Police found the body after a chase and an accident.
Attorneys are debating which pieces of evidence should be admissible.
Cantelli's attorney, Raymond Lakes, of the public defender's office, disputed introducing evidence that Cantelli told police he used methamphetamine before the shooting.
A call to the public defender's office Monday was not answered. Cantelli's trial is set to begin Dec. 11.
