ALBANY, Ga. -- Police in Albany are recommending that city officials more closely review five nightspots before renewing their alcohol licenses.
Albany Police Chief John Proctor says that "violent encounters" on or near the nightspots convinced him and code enforcement officials to recommend a review of the establishments' license applications.
The Albany Herald reports that city commissioners voted this week to hold hearings with representatives of each of the establishments to determine whether alcohol licenses should be denied or suspended.
The police chief said the number of police calls involving the nightspots is a concern, but so is the severity of the crimes. He said has been repeated violence at or near the businesses.
