Ga. cafe chefs to turn gingerbread house to crumbs

ATHENS, Ga. -- Like Rome, the gingerbread house at the Heirloom Cafe in Athens was not built in a day.
    
But it will only take seconds at 3 p.m. on Monday, Christmas Eve, to render the gingerbread house into nothing more than crumbs.
    
The Athens Banner-Herald reports that's when pastry chefs Teri Manley-Taylor and Caroline Kuhn plan to toss the house across the restaurant's parking lot and watch it break into pieces. The house is a gingerbread model of the Heirloom Cafe.
    
The house has been sitting on a bar in the restaurant for two weeks.
    
It took the chefs two days to make the structure. Melted cough drops were used for panes of glass. Gum shaped the roof's shingles and Tootsie rolls and cookie crumbs were turned into planters
