DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. (AP) -- Douglasville City Council has authorized Mayor Harvey Persons to sign an agreement with Google to install and operate an outdoor wireless Internet network.

The Marietta Daily Journal (http://bit.ly/VhgHVN) reports council voted unanimously last week on the wireless Internet promotion agreement with Google. Mayor Persons says Google officials have agreed to fund the project and the network is slated to cover the city's downtown plaza, Jesse Davis Park and Hunter Park.

The newspaper reports in exchange for wireless Internet, the company's logo will be displayed prominently at outdoor venues in the city.

Google operates a data center in Douglas County, where computers scan the Internet and index web pages to help optimize search results.

Douglasville is about 20 miles west of Atlanta in Douglas County.
