(AP) - Authorities in middle Georgia say a man who was fatally shot in a gunbattle with police was a state corrections officer.

Officials say 44-year-old Anthony Rawls was involved in a domestic dispute Sunday night and fired at officers as they approached the house in Warner Robins. Authorities say the man had threatened to kill his wife.

Georgia Department of Corrections representatives say Rawls was a lieutenant at Macon State Prison, and has been with the department since 1991.

Police spokeswoman Tabitha Pugh says an officer suffered minor injuries and the officers who were involved are on paid administrative leave - which is standard protocol in police-involved shootings.
