ATLANTA (AP) -- Heavy rains brought down trees and caused power outages in the Atlanta area and contributed to a fatal accident.
Rain-saturated ground is being blamed for big trees falling in metro Atlanta. Rosa Woodard told WSB-TV that she was home with her two grandchildren Saturday when she heard loud thunder.
Then a massive tree fell on her home and car. No one was injured. Other trees fell on power lines. Georgia Power reported that 2,100 customers were without power Saturday night.
The Georgia State Patrol says 29-year-old Calverence Roshard Lee of Wrens, Ga., was killed when the driver of the car he was riding in lost control on rain-slick Interstate 20 and collided with a tractor-trailer truck.
WAGA-TV reports the accident happened about 11:25 a.m. Saturday in Greene County.
