HENRY COUNTY, Ga. -- "It's strange, I'll tell you that."

That's how one friend and employee of John Wesley Morgan, 79, summed up the argument Wednesday afternoon at work between Morgan and his 48 year old son, John, Jr. -- an argument that, police say, ended with the son shooting the father to death.

Then, according to police, the son called 911 on himself and waited near his father's body for police to arrive.

Police said Wednesday evening that the son talked freely to detectives about the argument and the shooting.

"I just heard shots, that's all," said the friend and employee, David Gentry. "Quite a few."

There were many witnesses, police said -- family members and employees.

According to Henry County Police Major Jason Bolton, Morgan, Sr. and Morgan, Jr. were arguing at the business the father has owned for decades, Morgan Auto Parts, on Highway 138 just east of Stockbridge.

Maj. Bolton said the two were in back, outside, and the son pulled out a gun and shot the father several times.

Then called 911.

"Actually his son did call 911 and report that he had shot his father following an argument," Bolton said. "The shooter was actually located inside the garage area, sitting at a desk. Officers encountered him, ordered him to the ground, he complied."

Bolton said police found the gun nearby.

He declined to disclose the nature of the argument.

David Gentry said he's worked for John Morgan, Sr., for twenty years, and he's never known of trouble between him and Morgan, Jr.

"They're good people. I don't know what snapped him, or whatever."

Bolton said the son worked at the business.

The father lived next door, his front yard full of old cars.

Late Wednesday night, the son was booked into the Henry County Jail, charged with murder.
