ATLANTA (AP) -- The Supreme Court of Georgia has upheld the convictions and death sentence for a man accused in the 2007 rape and slaying of a 6-year-old boy in a trailer park outside Brunswick.

In a 5-to-2 decision published Monday, the high court rejected arguments by David Edenfield's lawyers that the evidence in the case was insufficient to find him guilty in the slaying of Christopher Barrios.

Writing for the majority, Justice Keith Blackwell rejected Edenfield's attorneys' arguments that the trial court made errors throughout the trial.

Defense lawyer James Yancey says he's disappointed with the high court's decision and will continue to pursue all available options.

In the dissent, Presiding Justice Hugh Thompson agreed with the decision to uphold Edenfield's convictions but said the death sentence should be reversed.
