FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. -- A 33-year-old man drowned in Lake Lanier Sunday afternoon in a cove.
The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call at 3:32 p.m. Sunday afternoon with the caller stating that a man was on a raft in the Athens Park Road area with other individuals, when he jumped into the water and never resurfaced.
The Hall County Fire Department Dive Team was already working in the area and responded to the scene.
At approximately 4:30 p.m., the dive team recovered the man's body in the same area where he was last seen.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to deputies at the scene, the cove where the man was located is about 40 feet deep in certain locations. The man was on a float that measured 8 feet by 10 feet with several other people.
The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Section is currently investigating the drowning.
The man's name is not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin.
