PEACHTREE CORNERS, Ga. (AP) -- Gwinnett County fire officials say a sleeping family of seven escaped an early morning house fire thanks to their barking 5-month-old puppy.
Fire department Captain Tommy Rutledge says a homeowner in Peachtree Corners awoke to his puppy's persistent barking Sunday morning and heard noises coming from the garage.
When the man opened the door, Rutledge says he was met with smoke and heat. The man gathered his family and everyone was safely outside the home when fire officials arrived.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is unclear.
Rutledge says the fire caused damage to the home and has temporarily displaced the family.
