COVINGTON, Ga. -- All 5-year-old Morgan Steward wanted was to be a police officer.
The young Covington resident has spinal muscular atrophy, a genetic condition that affects his muscle movement and leaves him in a wheelchair. But Morgan always has a big smile on his face and spreads sunshine to all who meet him.
When the Covington Police Department learned Morgan's story, they wasted no time in making his dream come true. The little boy was sworn in as the newest member of the force. He also led this year's Covington Christmas Parade.
Tuesday, Dec. 17 is Officer Morgan Day in Covington, and everybody is invited to visit the town's historic square to celebrate this very special police officer.
Morgan will begin his foot patrol at 11 a.m. He will arrest a bank robber, solve an art heist and rescue a kidnapped mascot. Then he will be treated to a visit from Santa Claus and other Christmas surprises from the 11Alive Help Desk.
Visitors are asked to use the hashtag #OfficerMorgan to spread the word, and to add their pictures to 11Alive's Officer Morgan Day photo gallery.
Before heading to the square for his special day, Officer Morgan and his family appeared on the 11Alive morning show, where the young cop helped Elle Duncan report on traffic and assisted Commuter Dude with his segment. Watch Officer Morgan's morning show debut.
