JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- November is another very busy month in the city, from winter wonderlands to Veterans appreciation events to Thanksgiving offers, venture out and explore all that Jacksonville has to offer this month!
-The Museum of Science and History opens a new exhibit showcasing 100 years of Jacksonville's architecture. You can see historic buildings and what makes Jacksonville so unique. Special offer on Fridays, admission to MOSH is just five dollars.
-Jacksonville's Week of Valor kicks off Monday, November 5, with special events for Veterans and servicemen and women in our community. The list of events includes a job fair, a picnic at the Jacksonville Landing and the very fun and very patriotic Veterans Day parade on Monday, November 12. The parade is along Bay Street in downtown Jacksonville. Another highlight of the Week of Valor will be the inaugural Navy-Marines Corps Classic at Naval Station Mayport.
And if you are wondering what is free for veterans? A lot! There's free admission at the Zoo, the local museums, world golf hall of fame. Check out VisitJacksonville.com for other special offers.
-The theme of this month's ArtWalk is "Movember" in support of men's health initiatives. ArWalk is on Wednesday, November 7. There will be live music, vendors and of course art. During next week's ArtWalk, Visit Jacksonvill's Main Office Visitors Center in downtown will be hosting a bake sale as the kick off to the Toys for Tots campaign in our city. So as you enjoy ArtWalk be sure to stop at the center and drop off a new gift for needy children in our community. Something nice to do!
-Starting Wednesday, November 7, 12,000 mathematicians will be in Jacksonville for an annual convention. They will be staying at the Hyatt downtown. Visit Jacksonville is very excited to have them in town enjoying Jacksonville.
-Starting on the 17th of the month and until January, WinterFEST opens its doors at Adventure Landing at the Beaches. There will be an ice skating rink and nightly snowfalls. A warm Florida Winter Wonderland.
-Also on the 17th, four other big events: the tree lightning at the St. Johns Town center, the Right Whale Festival at Jacksonville Beach and the San Marco Art Show. Those events are all FREE and open to the public. That same day the Jacksonville Arboretum is celebrating its 4th anniversary. FREE for members, $5 for the public. If you haven't been to the Arboretum you are really missing out on a great and FREE place to hike and enjoy nature.
-On November 23rd is the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at the Jacksonville Landing. This event is FREE to attend so come out and enjoy a very Jacksonville holiday tradition.
-On the 24th, the Jacksonville Light parade is back. Dozens of boats all decked out in their best holiday lights parading down the St. Johns River in downtown Jacksonville. Don't miss it!
-Also on the 24th, Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam is in town at the Times-Union Performing Center. You can relieve your grunge years by seeing the music legend in concert.
-At the end of this month, on November 28th, the Alhambra Theater and Dining will be presenting a new show called "White Christmas". It's the first time in their 40+ year history they don't do perform "A Christmas Carol" for the holidays.
-If you don't want to cook on Thanksgiving, the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront has a holiday buffet for $30 dollars and Azurea at One Ocean will have a special Brunch on Thanksgiving Day.
