BAKER COUNTY, Fla. -- Someone made a makeshift grave bearing the name of Cameron Coward. He just lost in the race for Baker County Sheriff. After seeing the picture, voter Joan Lyons said, "That's gruesome."

Baker County Clerk of Courts Al Fraser said the first time he heard of this is when we told him. Apparently, someone cleaned this up before the courthouse opened. He said this is not the first time he's seen this outside of his courthouse.

"It's something people used to do years ago all the time every election. So, it probably hadn't been done in ten years to my knowledge," Fraser said.

This after an already tense race. Our First Coast News cameras caught supporters from both sides on Saturday, stationed across the street from each other.

Which left Debbie Pruett wondering if someone crossed the line by creating a grave.

"I think it's a shame. I think it's very shameful they've taken it that far," she said.

At this point, the clerk said they are not looking at this as a criminal act, even though people who have seen this picture are wondering how someone could get away with this.

FCN spoke with Baker County Sheriff Joey Dobson. He said he did not hear about this, but he also knows about the tradition in the County. He said it happened to him in a political race in 1980. FCN has a call in to Coward.
