JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Domestic violence is an issue facing millions of women worldwide.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports 24 people per minute are victims of physical violence, rape or stalking by an intimate partner in the United States.

Additional statistics provided by the international movement One Billion Rising show one in three women will be beaten or raped in their lifetime.

Now a group of people in Jacksonville is putting its collective foot down to say "no more."

On Thursday, a flash mob performance will be held in the outdoor atrium on Florida State College at Jacksonville's South Campus between buildings U and B.

The performers are mostly students, but the public at large is invited to attend.

It is happening in recognition of the One Billion Rising movement, which uses Valentine's Day to raise awareness about domestic violence.

The movement's goal is to get one billion people worldwide to "rise up" by dancing, singing or doing any other supportive gesture.

FSCJ students decided to form a flash mob in hopes of getting people to flood the atrium and raise awareness of sex trafficking and abuse in Jacksonville

"There's a lot of powerful women here in Jacksonville who want to show strength with one another, and men can also rise and show support for the women through this process. We thought that was a good way for everyone to come together," said student leader Marissa Davis.

The flash mob routine is available online by clicking here.
