Joe Dekle smiling with his new "flipper," which was able to get for free.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Joe Dekle grew up in Jacksonville and had a successful career in the car sales business. But then like lots of people he lost his job. So going to the dentist became an impossibility.
He says the pain in his mouth felt like "an ice pick" jabbing him.
And it was embarrassing with a couple gaps in his mouth.
But he found the Healing Hands clinic on Timuquana. Dekle was able to get a "flipper," a partial denture, at no cost.
Dekle says it was like a "miracle" to him. He says the staff treated him so well, and he's grateful.
Problem is the tiny clinic has hundreds of people on the waiting list.
That's why we started The Apple Project to build a new, free dental clinic.
If you'd like to donate financially or donate supplies and/or labor, email Jeannie Blaylock at email@example.com.
We need millwork, cabinets, paint, building supplies from shovels to labor, concrete and drywall materials, fencing and landscaping. If you have other construction materials, they are welcome, as well.
We hope to break ground the first part of 2014.
