JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Christie's daughter, Angela, says her mom has learned to laugh at everything.

That includes breast cancer.  Even a double mastectomy.

Christie had both her breasts removed and she's now having reconstruction.  Just the idea of getting perkier makes her chuckle.

She says after living life some 60 years she deserves the lift, artificial or not.

The part which makes Angela laugh, though, is her mom's purchase of a special t-shirt.

Angela says, the shirt jokes that "Of course, they're not real.  My real ones tried to kill me."

Christie lives in the San Pablo area of Jacksonville.  She's our latest Buddy Check 12 success story.

During the interview Christie pointed out a pretty pearl necklace she was wearing.

The necklace makes two important points.

The first is serious.  Christie says she did Buddy Check 12 ("It saved my life.") and found a lump, which felt like a hard pearl.

A hard knot of any shape or size is a classic sign of breast cancer.

The second point is sentimental.   Her husband presented the pearl necklace to her and said she was a beautiful hero to him, even after her surgery.

Christie is encouraging all women to do self exams.
