ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fl - For Buddy Check 12 day this February, we meet Rhonda Gauger. She is a teacher at Fruitcove School in St. Johns County. She knows how to grab life and her students say she is fun. She is still around because she did Buddy Check 12 and has done it since Day 1.
"Ten years ago when you started the Buddy Check 12 program, I was a viewer and I thought that was a neat idea. I got a Buddy Check 12 packet and started doing my self-exam," said Rhonda Gauger, breast cancer survivor.
The cancer she found felt just like the silver ball in one of her musical instruments. It was hard as a rock. Now, the chemotherapy is over and she's celebrating along with the whole school. The band director even wrote a special song called "Life for Your Future" for Rhonda and all breast cancer survivors.
"I'm serious. [Buddy Check 12] is that important to me. [The cancer] did not show up on a
mammogram and my doctor missed it," said Rhonda Gauger, breast cancer survivor.
So women, are you checking?
Friday is Valentine's Day. A nice way to tell someone you love to please stay alive is our new Buddy Check 12 pin. It has been sold out twice and there is a waiting list but more have arrived in time for Valentines Day. The pins cost $20 and all the proceeds go to breast cancer research.
