August's Buddy Check Twelve story doesn't start with a cancer survivor but an angel. Actually it's a painting of an angel at Specialty Hospital in Jacksonville.
Staff at Specialty Hospital has a special way of looking at their angel; they say she is doing a breast self-exam. Think that's silly? August's Buddy Check Twelve survivor, Dianna, doesn't.
She says, "I was blessed. I was just so blessed." Dianna did Buddy Check Twelve every month and in doing so found her own breast cancer.
Thankfully, Dianna caught the cancer early before it was in her lymph nodes. She didn't have cancer in a single node. She says that the tumor felt like a peanut M&M. She says it was hard and she found it high up, just above her bra line.
She says, "I cried a lot at first because I didn't think it could happen to me." But she says she hung on to Psalms 23 to help her get through the trauma. Dianna says the lord talked to her and told her that she was going to be fine.
Her friend Lori says that Dianna never let the cancer get the best of her and she smiled the whole time she had it.
Her friends say they are all proud of her. For her positive attitude and for saving her own life, Dianna has earned this month's Buddy Check Twelve pin.
