By Jeannie Blaylock First Coast News JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Students at Riverside Presbyterian Day School are known for being academically bright, polite and kind-hearted. Of course, they're not perfect angels all the time. But when it comes to helping others, they were confident the school would shine. The students in Riverside, though, actually surprised themselves. They rallied to collect bears for our new Buddy Bear project. We're looking for new bears to give to chemotherapy patients fighting any type of cancer. RPDS students figured they'd collect several hundreds bears. When the total came in, though, you could feel the rush of excitement. The total? The kids and teachers collected 900 bears! Click on the video button to see their special "bear chapel." You'll also see chemo patients just light up to receive a bear. We're wrapping up our bear drive this week. If you'd still like to donate new bears just drop them off at First Coast News. Soon we'll announce the grand total collected. Our volunteers are still counting but I'm told the number will be incredible. We already have enough to give to Hospice patients, as well.
