You know how in any group there's always that one mom who is the fun one? This month's Buddy Check 12 success story is one such mom from Green Cove Springs.
Alta Kidd has been a good sport throughout her life, making people laugh in any circumstance, and that attitude has given her a lot of spirit. That spirit and attitude served her well during her fight against breast cancer.
Alta says she never got a mammogram but she managed to do Buddy Check 12. Looking back, she says that's what saved her life. "If not for your preaching Jeannie, I'd not have done it." She says the key is, "to remind yourself every month."
Alta's cancer was the size of a chickpea and felt like a little bumpy knot under her arm. She says that when she found it she said, "oh my gosh." She says the spot where she found the knot was sore but didn't hurt. She says it was just there.
Once diagnosed with the disease, she went through chemo and radiation and managed to come through with flying colors.
Months later Alta Kidd is doing great and for saving her own life she's September's Buddy Check 12 success.
