By Jeannie Blaylock First Coast News FERNANDINA BEACH, FL -- Gerri's Corner in Fernandina Beach is a cozy place volunteers are hoping will reach more and more women. It's a refuge, a comfort zone for women going through any type of cancer. Volunteers say anyone is welcome, although they're hoping women from the Nassau County area will find out about Gerri's Corner and take advantage of the opportunity. The organizers say often women going through chemo are too tired to drive into Jacksonville. At Gerri's Corner, women fighting cancer can receive a pretty bag stuffed with all sorts of goodies for free. The gifts include a handmade afghan, a stuffed bear and a Buddy Check 12 kit. Gerri's Corner also has a free lending library packed with DVD and books on cancer treatment and communication with children about cancer. The site also offers free wigs. The women there say many times they can help just by listening. Gerri's Corner is open weekdays from Noon to 4 p.m. It's in Maxwell Hall on North 6th Street in the Historic District in Fernandina Beach. The phone number is 904-277-0099.
