JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The renovation and repainting project on the Mathews Bridge will be ramping up this weekend, meaning drivers in both directions will need to detour.
According to Mike Goldman with the Department of Transportation, the bridge is scheduled to fully close at 7 p.m. today and remain closed until 6 a.m. Sunday.
While the bridge is closed, the closest detour is the Hart Bridge, south of the Mathews.
The bridge will be completely open Monday for the Jaguars game, but the eastbound lanes will be closed Tuesday and Thursday from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., and Wednesday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Directional closures overnight will be the norm for the duration of the project, which is scheduled for completion by the summer of 2014.
The bridge is getting new paint and repairs of structural steel and joints.
