JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood wants to spend millions of dollars to create two rapid transit bus lines in Jacksonville.
Under the secretary's recommendation the Jacksonville Transportation Authority would receive $38.2 million.
From that money $19.1 million would connect the downtown bus rapid transit line project currently under to a new line running north of downtown Jacksonville to I-295.
The remaining $19.1 million would be used for another new line. This one would service southeast of Jacksonville to Southside Blvd.
The projects were included in the budget President Obama presented this week.
