STARKE, Fla. -- A pedestrian was killed when he was hit by a car while trying to cross U.S. 301 on Saturday night.
Shannen Sigman, 19, of Oviedo, Fla., was driving a 2011 Toyota Corolla on U.S. 301 southbound in the left lane, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
The man, who has not yet been identified, walked eastbound across 301 directly in front of Sigman's Corolla.
Witnesses nearby said that Sigman had to time to avoid hitting the pedestrian, the report said. The pedestrian was struck on his left side and died at the scene.
Charges are pending, according to the FHP report.
