PALM COAST, Fla. -- The State Fire Marshal is investigating a house fire that required Flagler County Sheriff's Office deputies to evacuate six homes Thursday night.
The fire at 20 Woodstone Lane happened around 11 p.m., according to a news release from Flagler County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Debra Johnson.
Johnson said the fire was deemed suspicious, so the State Fire Marshal is now investigating.
Deputies who arrived at the house fire reported seeing flames coming from the roof. The Flagler County Fire Department extinguished the fire which Johnson said fully engulfed the home.
Johnson said police found the home's resident, 54-year-old Harold Pizzetta, sitting in a chair in the corner of his fenced yard. Police reported Pizzetta had been sitting there the entire time firefighters put out the fire.
Johnson said Pizzetta told police someone broke into the home, set the fire and then left. Rescue personnel transported him to Flagler Hospital where he was treated for burn injuries. Pizzetta is the only occupant of the home.
Johnson said due to the size of the fire and strong winds, deputies were forced to evacuate houses in the immediate area.
