CLAY COUNTY, Fla. -- Monday Florida Department of Transportation road crews began work on resurfacing stretch of U.S. Highway 17.

The project will resurface 1.7 miles of U.S. 17 from Water Oak Lane to CR 220.

The project will also add bicycle lanes throughout the project limits, improve handicapped access ramps at intersections, improve intersection signing and pavement markings and perform other incidental work.

The project is projected to cost $2 million.

During resurfacing, lanes will be closed between 8:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. during the week. FDOT said no lane closing restrictions will take place on weekends.

The project is scheduled to be completed in Spring 2013.

The Hubbard Construction Co. of Winter Park is the contractor for the job, FDOT said.
