GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- A 30-year-old man was shot shortly after midnight Wednesday during a home invasion robbery in the 4300 block of NW 35th Terrace, according to the Gainesville Police Department.

Gainesville Police received multiple 911 calls about a person shot, according to Officer Ben Tobias with the Gainesville Police.

Police discovered a 30-year-old male who had been shot in the right thigh. His name was not released by police. He was transported to Shands at UF with non-life threatening injuries.

The man reported that two male suspects kicked in the front door of his residence, then one of the suspect shot him, Tobias said. The suspects then fled the area in a tan colored sedan.

Police were unable to give an accurate description of the suspects.

Officers reported smelling a strong odor of pot coming from the master bedroom and closet when they cleared the residence.

This led investigators to consider that the incident is likely drug related, said Tobias.

"If this incident is in fact drug related, any person involved may face charges," said Gainesville Police Department Chief Tony Jones said.

The investigation is still ongoing.

The Gainesville Police Department encourages anyone with information about this incident to contact the Criminal Investigations Bureau at 352-393-7670, or Crime Stoppers at 352-372-STOP.
