JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The seventh annual "Feed the Needy" Celebration started bright and early in downtown Jacksonville on Tuesday.
The "Omega Psi Phi" chapter of Jacksonville served hot meals and warm clothes to those in need. Dozens waited in line for a hearty Christmas meal and holiday music.
Volunteers and community groups such as the Jacksonville chapter of MAD DADS offered their support as well.
Over 750 trays were served last Christmas with this year's total expected to top 1,000.

"Christmas Day is a day that not a lot of restaurants are open, so we are going to continue to do this on Christmas Day as long as we continue to get the support from the neighborhoods, from the community, and the people that are involved," said Melvin Williams of Omega Psi Phi.

"Clothing is being given away, food ... we're just here to support, support the needs of the community," said Donald Foy of MAD DADS.

Omega Psi Phi said this morning they would stay at the corner of West Union and North Jefferson Street until all the food is gone.
